M31 or M32: which do you need?
The four most popular EARMOR models are essentially the same product. They differ on exactly two points, and once you know them the choice takes thirty seconds.
What all four models share
The M31, M32, M31H and M32H use the same cups and the same electronics. Microphones amplify ambient sound, and the moment a shot is fired that peak noise is suppressed within milliseconds. You hear your teammates, range commands and game, but not the blast. Certified attenuation is NRR 22 dB on all four, they all run on two AAA batteries and have an AUX input.
So never pay extra for "better attenuation" within this series; it is identical. You only pay for two things: how the muff sits on your head, and whether it carries comms.
The two differences
| Model | Mounting | Comms | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| M31 | Headband | None | Range and hunting without a helmet |
| M32 | Headband | Microphone + PTT | Teams talking over a radio |
| M31H | ARC rail (helmet) | None | FAST helmet users without a radio |
| M32H | ARC rail (helmet) | Microphone + PTT | FAST helmet users with a radio |
Common mistakes
The most common mistake is buying an M32 "for later" when no radio is involved. The microphone then does nothing and only gets in the way; the M31 is the same product for less money. The reverse happens too: buying an M31 and having to buy a second, pricier headset when the team switches to radios. If you know comms are coming, buy right the first time.
With the H models, check your helmet: they clip onto standard ARC rails as found on FAST helmets. If your helmet has no rails, you need separate adapters, or simply pick the headband model.
