EARMOR foam earplugs: as standalone protection with light calibres, and as a second layer under your muffs with heavy calibres or indoor ranges.
With .50, with large calibres and on covered indoor ranges, one layer of hearing protection is often not enough. The official approach is called double protection: plugs in the ear with muffs over them. The attenuation doesn't add up neatly, but you do gain a serious amount.
Beyond that, a bag of earplugs is simply the cheapest thing to have in your kit for the moment a mate forgets his muffs, or your batteries are flat.
